Windows, the Digital Revolution and the PC: Coming Together
to Build the Digital World of the Future
Dave Orton, President and Chief Operating Officer, ATI Technologies Inc.
Tuesday, May 4, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM; Hall4B
The Windows family of operating systems provides unprecedented platforms
for hardware and software to come together and integrate PCs, connected devices,
digital data, and scenarios that change the way we work, play and live. Microsoft
is extending the reach of Windows to integrate digital devices into an interoperable
world with the PC at the center, and the Windows community has the incredible
opportunity to reach new and existing customers with compelling solutions
today. Only on the Windows platform can you get this breadth of experience
in one ecosystem, and Dave Orton, President and COO of ATI Technologies Inc,

- Beyond Better, Stronger, Faster: Innovating around Experiences
Jim Allchin
Group Vice President, Windows Platform, Microsoft Corporation
Tuesday, May 4, 8:45 AM – 10:00 AM; Hall4B
As an industry, we have done much to solidify the technical foundation of
PCs and devices, which are faster, more powerful, and more reliable than
ever before. Innovation is the best way to drive demand as well as higher
margins. Our continued success depends not only on further technology advances,
but on what we do to build personal value on top of the technical value we
already deliver. To resonate with customers on a personal level, we must
work together to deliver “experiences” that enhance their ability
to manage and enjoy their daily pursuits and passions - those activities
that involve family and friends, work, hobbies, community, education, and
leisure time. Innovating around experiences will require that we evolve our
traditional, engineering-based approach to designing our respective products
into one that is person-based as well as technology-based. If we do so, we
will capture a part of the economy that is currently growing around people’s
aspirations for a higher quality of life and the great "experiences" that
deliver it.

- Seamless Computing: Hardware Advances for a New Generation
of Software
Bill Gates, Chairman and Chief Software Architect, Microsoft Corporation
Tuesday, May 4 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM; Hall4B
In his keynote at WinHEC 2004, Bill Gates will describe why Seamless Computing – a
vision that taps the power of software to make applications, content, and
hardware devices work as a coordinated whole across our lives – relies
not only on software innovation but also on fundamental advances in hardware.
Gates will highlight long-term trends in processors, storage, networking,
graphics and peripherals. Gates will also describe tools that are helping
developers build hardware and software that is more secure, connected and
easy to manage. Demonstrations planned for Mr. Gates’ keynote include
a look at the future of home computing, the state-of-the-art in high bandwidth
end-to-end networks and a preview of tools and technologies for 64-bit extended
systems.
