    Press Release - Archives 1999

ATI optimized software drivers deliver high performance for New Seventh-Generation AMD Athlon™ processor

RAGE 128 graphics chips and drivers support AMD's entire processor family featuring 3DNow! ™ technology

    August 9, 1999

Toronto, Canada - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) today announced the availability of drivers for its RAGE 128 family of graphics chips that offer high performance and full-featured support for the AMD processor family. Optimizations for current AMD processors not only provide significant performance improvements over non-optimized drivers, but also enable industry-leading quality enhancements for the most popular features, such as MPEG-2 and DVD acceleration. Performance optimizations for the next-generation AMD Athlon™ processor are available from ATI now, with feature optimizations for MPEG-2 and DVD to come.

ATI has developed and worked with AMD to ensure that software drivers for its RAGE 128 chip-based products will be fully optimized for the AMD-K6-2, AMD-K6-III and the new AMD Athlon processors, integrating support for AMD's 3DNow! technology within all of its drivers to provide further performance enhancements across all AMD-powered platforms.

"ATI's optimizations for the entire family of AMD processors, including the AMD Athlon processor, will demonstrate that we are committed to providing the best 3D and video acceleration for the end user by continually delivering improvements to both our software and our hardware," said Alfonse Licata, Director of Software Marketing and Business Development, ATI. "ATI, with its RAGE 128 family of chips, and the AMD family of processors make an unbeatable combination."

The RAGE 128 and RAGE 128 Pro chips are not only among the fastest graphics chips in the world, but the most feature-laden. Both RAGE chips and AMD processors are performance leaders in their respective fields. RAGE 128's support of AMD's 3DNow! technology, which enhances floating point intensive 3D graphics and multimedia applications, enables a superior visual computing experience.

"AMD is pleased that ATI is enabling users to get the most out of their AMD/ATI systems by integrating optimized support within its products for AMD's entire family of processors," said Steve Lapinski, director of Product Marketing for AMD's Computation Products Group.

RAGE setup engine boosts AMD/ATI performance
The RAGE 128 PRO's set up engine, which enables 7 million antialiased lines per second, is ideal for intensive CAD, games and animation applications, especially when coupled with the industry-leading, high-performance AMD Athlon processor.

Only ATI delivers no-compromise 32bpp performance
The ATI/AMD quest for realism is given another boost through the RAGE 128 PRO's full optimization to operate in 32-bit true color. And it does so with minimal performance degradation, providing true color with a performance level equal to that of a card that supports only 16-bit color.

MPEG-2 decode, simultaneous capture of two video streams, HDTV support
With the RAGE 128 Pro's integrated IDCT and Motion Compensation, DVD decode can be accomplished with an absolute minimum of CPU usage, leaving the power of the AMD processor to complete other tasks. Performance optimized drivers for the Rage 128 family for AMD processors can be found at ATI's website, www.ati.com.
