Toronto, Canada - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) today announced that the company is the preferred TV-Tuner card sold through US distribution channels according to PC Data's latest market research report.
The ongoing study by PC Data found ATI to be the market leader in terms of number of TV-Tuner cards sold through distribution for the period ending July 31, 1999.
ATI's success in this market is even more remarkable as it only entered the market in April 1999. The second version of the ATI-TV WonderTM add-in board will be released in November 1999.
"ATI offers some of the best features of any TV-Tuner card on the market at a value price," says John S. Lostroscio, vice president of merchandising/hardware, CompUSA. "We chose ATI as a supplier for TV-tuner cards because we believe our customers will appreciate the features their product offers."
ATI TV Wonder was selected CNET EDITORS' CHOICE by the editors of CNET.com, on September 16, 1999. "All you need is a free PCI slot and the ATI TV Wonder card. CNET liked that the average user does not need to connect anything to their existing video card, and the tuner card connects to your sound card with one external cable. The drivers install from a single floppy disk. It is as simple as attaching a television cable or antenna to the hookup on the card and being able to watch TV on your PC in no time."
"The latest market research from PC Data confirms that the ATI brand name is a big hit with distributors, our multimedia software and enhanced features have been handsomely rewarded with distributors making ATI their number one TV-Tuner vendor," says Alan McCann, director of the visual products group. "The ATI-TV Tuner card is compatible with any graphics board and offer consumers a very easy way for them to get TV on their PC and do more than just watch it."
ATI's TV-Wonder turns the PC into the ultimate convergence and multimedia system. Designed for almost any graphics subsystem, the ATI-TV Wonder offers all PC users the opportunity to enjoy the full range of ATI's leading-edge multimedia features and technology.
"ATI's success with its new TV tuner card is no surprise," said Stephen Baker director of Hardware analysis at PC Data. "ATI has consistently led in sales through US distributors for standard graphics cards, and the performance of the ATI TV-Wonder is a continuation of this strong showing."
With ATI's Digital VCR, a PC can record favorite TV shows without filling an entire hard-drive. Digital VCR format empowers PCs to compress video on-the-fly, as it's viewed. The TV-Wonder has Microsoft's Web-TV-for-Windows functionality.
