the worldwide market leader in mobile graphics
From 0 to 37% total market share in under 2 years, and supplier
to the world's top notebook manufacturers
February
8, 2000
Toronto,
Ontario - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced
today that ATI is now the world's highest volume supplier of
mobile graphics, following issue of the latest report from Mercury
Research.(1)
Mercury Research Q499 results for the graphics market finds
ATI is now the worldwide leader in mobile graphics accelerators,
based on rapid market acceptance of its advanced 3D accelerators.
ATI now holds an overall 37% market share, up substantially
from the 30% market share held during Q399. During Q499, ATI
shipped almost 2.7 million mobile graphics accelerators.
With the recent addition of Toshiba as a customer, ATI is now
the mobile graphics vendor to the world's leading notebook OEMs,
including IBM, Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, NEC, Acer, Apple and Gateway.
Mercury Research expects the notebook market to continue to
strongly gain momentum, with 17% year over year growth between
2000 and 2004.(2)
"ATI's market leadership of the mobile graphics field has been
achieved in a very short time by doing what the company does
best: building on our computer graphics excellence, focusing
on adding value for a new market segment, and excelling at execution,"
said KY Ho, President and CEO, ATI Technologies Inc. "We will
continue to exploit our unique set of strengths as we move progressively
into new markets beyond the PC."
Committed to market segment leadership, ATI has progressively
narrowed the performance gap between desktop and mobile graphics.
ATI's latest mobile graphics accelerator, the RAGE Mobility
128, was introduced within six months of its desktop equivalent,
the RAGE 128 PRO, ATI's latest graphics chip.
Since shipping its first mobile graphics accelerator in 1998,
ATI has quickly become the dominant leader in the mobile graphics
market based on the strength of its product offering. ATI's
current mobile family of products includes the RAGE LT PRO,
the world's first 3D AGP notebook accelerator; the RAGE Mobility
family of products -- RAGE Mobility P with integrated iDCT,
RAGE Mobility M with 4MB of integrated memory, RAGE Mobility
M1 with 8MB integrated memory; and the new RAGE Mobility 128,
the first mobile graphics chip to offer complete desktop-equivalent
performance and features.
