    Press Release - Archives 2000

ATI achieves major industry milestone: ships 10 millionth RAGE Mobility™ graphics chip

ATI's RAGE Mobility™ family of products sets industry record, shipping nearly one million 3D units per month

    November 9, 2000

Toronto, Ontario, Canada - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that the Company has shipped more than 10 million RAGE Mobility™ graphic accelerator chips.

RAGE Mobility chips are used by every one of the high technology industry's leading notebook personal computer manufacturers, as well as by those manufacturers who build and market "small form factor" desktop PCs.

Since passing the one million units shipped milestone little more than a year ago, ATI has continued to broaden the RAGE Mobility product range, introducing the RAGE Mobility™ 128™ and more recently, the Mobility™ M4™, the industry's first shipping AGP 4X mobile graphics component.

Portable PC's are expected to post a 21.27% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) for the period 2000-2004, versus 17.5% for desk-based PCs.* The "ultraportable" market segment is forecast to develop at an even faster growth rate, at a 28.4% CAGR during the same time period.** This reflects the popularity of small, lightweight portable PC designs among both corporate and small business users.

"Portable PCs continue to outpace desktop PCs in percentage growth terms as more and more corporate users purchase portables as desktop replacements or to upgrade existing notebooks and ultraportables used by their mobile users," said Randy Giusto, vice president of mobile and desktop research at IDC. Business travelers and consumers alike can enjoy 3D gaming, Internet access and DVD applications on the go. ATI, as the graphics vendor that brought 3D graphics to the mobile platform, has been a key player in driving market acceptance and demand for effective 3D and multimedia capabilities on the mobile platform.

ATI has built a number of key advantages in and around its mobile product set over time, including mobile-specific features and technologies, strong customer relationships, and unparalleled customer support and communications infrastructure. As the industry leader, ATI will continue to set the pace in the mobile graphics market, by announcing an unprecedented series of new mobile products over the next 12 months.

"Notebook users and manufacturers have a unique set of requirements," said Lou Leung, Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Business Unit, ATI Technologies Inc. " ATI's ability to respond to those requirements and also offer innovations has afforded the Company market leadership in this category - a position we will aggressively build on through continued innovations at a fast pace and excellence in service."
