ATI's Mobility™ M4 AGP 4X graphics component chosen for select Hitachi desktops
Mobile accelerator features in desktop PCs
November 29, 2000
Markham, Ontario - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT), today announced that its Mobility™ M4, the industry's first shipping mobile AGP 4X graphics accelerator, has been selected by Hitachi Ltd. for use in its Prius Deck series of consumer desktop personal computers -technology aimed at the Japanese home PC market.
The agreement with Hitachi represents the first time that the recently announced Mobility M4 has been incorporated into consumer desktop system technologies, rather than its typical inclusion in commercial and consumer notebook PCs.
ATI's Mobility M4 was selected by Hitachi for its high level of integration, including an integrated 16 megabyte frame buffer and integrated liquid crystal display interface. This allows Hitachi to offer powerful consumer desktop machines that are conveniently compact. In addition, the Mobility M4's accelerator graphics port 4X interface doubles the AGP 2X transfer speed found in current competing desktop PC graphics solutions, providing industry-leading graphics speed, DVD quality and dual monitor display capabilities. The Mobility M4 is also capable of playing demanding 3D games and handling the complexity of 3D applications.
"The combination of Hitachi's Prius Deck series and ATI's Mobility M4 will allow us to offer end users a high-performance product that is also compact," said Masaaki Hiramatsu, senior engineer, media platform department, digital media system division, Hitachi, Ltd. "The Mobility M4 ensures we continue to Provide consumers with the latest in technical convenience without compromising power."
The Mobility M4 is matched in new models of Hitachi's Prius Deck 700S, 500S, 750S and 550S systems with the latest Intel® Pentium® III processors, ranging from 800-EBMHz to 866-MHz in speed, or the Intel® Celeron® 700-MHz processor.
"ATI works closely with Hitachi to ensure that the right solutions are chosen for each product's unique requirements," said Vincent Win, vice president, strategic sales, ATI Technologies Inc. "Although designed primarily for the consumer and commercial notebook market, the Mobility M4 easily handles the performance needs of Hitachi's Prius consumer desktop PCs and allows for a compact design. This is a great example of the multiple uses of ATI's leading technology."
