ATI endorses AMD 'S HyperTransport™ technology

Industry-standard technology designed to accelerate graphics processing

    Tuesday February 13, 2001

MARKHAM, Ontario - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT), the world’s largest supplier of graphics, video and multimedia solutions, today announced its support for and planned incorporation of AMD’s HyperTransportTM technology into future ATI graphics processor products, thereby helping to establish the technology as a future industry standard.

HyperTransport is a new high-speed, high-performance, point-to-point link for integrated circuits. HyperTransport provides a universal connection that reduces the number of buses within the system, provides a high-performance link for embedded applications and is designed to enable highly scalable multiprocessing systems. It enables the chips inside PCs, networking and communications devices to communicate with each other up to 24 times faster than with existing technologies.

“AMD is glad to have ATI as a partner implementing the HyperTransport bus,” said Gabriele Sartori, Director of Technology Evangelism, AMD. “HyperTransport technology’s reduction of bottlenecks in the PC architecture is planned to deliver PC users a new level of gaming and Internet experience. Using our revolutionary high speed link, ATI has the opportunity to further unleash the power of leading-edge processor architectures of the third millennium.”

“ATI fully endorses AMD’s HyperTransport technology and will support its industry standardization through our plans to incorporate it into future products,” said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President, Marketing, & General Manager, Desktop Marketing, ATI Technologies Inc. “The HyperTransport technology is an example of the innovative advances we’ve come to expect from AMD, and ATI is continuing to work with them to bring personal computer users an unparalleled graphical experience.”
