ATI 's high-performance Radeon® 64MB DDR named year 's best graphics card by PC World

Radeon graphics board garners Best of 2001 World Class Award

    Monday June 18, 2001

MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT), a world leader in the supply of graphics, video and multimedia solutions, today announced that its Radeon® 64MB (megabyte) DDR (double data rate) desktop graphics board has been awarded the Best of 2001 World Class Award for Hardware by PC World Magazine.

Celebrating its 19th year, the World Class Awards honor the best in computers, hardware, software and the Internet. To select the best of the best, PC World’s editors, testers and contributors examined the entire spectrum of products that have appeared in the magazine over the past year. Hundreds of products in 58 categories were judged on performance, value, consistency and innovation.

Announced in the July 2001 issue of PC World Magazine, the Radeon 64 MB DDR was selected as the best graphics card in the desktop market. Garnering praise was the speed of the card’s 32-bit color 3D graphics, advanced 3D technology and robust transform and lighting (T&L) engine for 3D realism. Also contributing to the award win were the board’s DVD video playback feature, still image and full motion video capture, TV/VCR output, and low estimated street price of (US) $229.

“Whether you’re interested in hooking up a high-resolution monitor or getting more-fluid graphics from PC games, the $229 ATI Radeon 64MB DDR will provide the performance boost you seek,” wrote the editors of PC World Magazine. “The Radeon includes video-in and -out ports, and it supports higher resolutions better than cards based on Nvidia’s GeForce2 GTS or GeForce2 MX chip sets.”

“The Radeon 64MB DDR continues to be one of the top performing graphics cards, earning praise from critics and consumers alike,” said Toshi Okumura, Senior Product Manager, Radeon, Desktop Marketing, ATI Technologies Inc. “We are very excited that PC World has named the Radeon 64MB DDR the year’s best graphics card. This clearly recognizes ATI’s leadership in the PC graphics market.”

Since its release in July 2000, the Radeon 64MB DDR has won Maximum PC’s Kick Ass award and Editors’ Choice with PC Praxis Germany, PC Achat France as well as with Personal Computer World UK. In addition, the Radeon 64MB DDR received PC Format UK’s Gold Award, CHIP Italy’s Best Buy, was selected Innovation of the Year by PC Direct France and received Smart Business’ MVP 2001 Award.
