ATI unveils All-in-Wonder®Radeon® 8500DV: the world’s most advanced multimedia graphics board

1394 now supported in newest addition to All-in-Wonder family

    Thursday August 30, 2001

MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT), a world leader in the supply of graphics, video and multimedia solutions, today unveiled the new All-in-Wonder® Radeon® 8500DV, the world’s most advanced1 multimedia graphics board and the latest addition to the award-winning, marketshare-leading All-in-Wonder family.

With a manufacturer’s suggested list price of under (US) $500 and available in retail stores worldwide later this Fall, All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV delivers an unrivaled home theater experience for desktop personal computers.

“The All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV will satisfy user requirements for more features and more power -- and it will complement the very successful All-in-Wonder Radeon, which continues to win industry accolades and lead the North American retail market in terms of customer acceptance,” said Godfrey Cheng, Director of Marketing, Multimedia Products, ATI Technologies Inc. “One highly requested customer feature is the RF (radio frequency) remote control, which is now included to further enhance the home theater experience.”

“Research shows that customers often have their TV in a different room than their All-in-Wonder equipped PC,” explained Blair Birmingham, Group Product Manager, TV PC Multimedia Products, ATI Technologies Inc. “ Using the RF remote control allows the All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV user to control the PC TV functionality from the couch in front of their TV, even when the PC is in another room.”

All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV is the first in ATI’s family of video cards to provide IEEE 1394 standard DV (digital video) connection, giving digital video enthusiasts the ability to connect digital camcorders and other IEEE 1394 devices.

“ATI is evolving the PC platform by delivering the IEEE 1394 standard with All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV,” said David Fair, Extended PC Technologies Initiative Manager, Intel Corporation. “Using the best Intel-endorsed technologies, All-in-Wonder remains a popular multimedia solution for consumers.”

All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV enhances the home entertainment PC experience by including popular features such as TV-on-Demand™ Timeshifting, enabling viewers to pause live TV or create instant replays, and Gemstar-TV Guide’s GUIDE Plus+™ system, an interactive program guide (North America only), to view and search TV listings by category, actor/performer, or date – all the benefits of a Personal Video Recorder without the monthly fees; “ATI continues the TV on PC revolution with the inclusion of Gemstar-TV Guide’s GUIDE Plus+ system,” said Mike Jeffress, Vice President of Business Development, Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. “Our vision is for the GUIDE Plus+ IPG to be incorporated in a wide variety of devices – on TV, on-line and on the desktop. The GUIDE Plus+ system truly enhances the All-in-Wonder 8500DV experience for home theater and TV enthusiasts.”
