    ATI Mobility™ Radeon® graphics processor to be used in
    IBM ThinkPad A Series notebooks


    Powerful video graphics and maximum performance multimedia now available in a desktop alternative notebook

    Tuesday, October 16, 2001

    MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT), the world’s number one supplier of notebook graphics, video and multimedia solutions, today announced that IBM (NYSE:IBM) has included ATI’s Mobility™ Radeon® GPU (graphics processing unit) in its ThinkPad™ A30 and A30p notebook personal computers.

    The IBM ThinkPad A30p notebook PC, which features Mobility Radeon graphics, recently won an Intel® Innovative PC Award. IBM’s ThinkPad A Series notebooks also include a Mobile Intel Pentium® III processor-M operating at up to 1.2 GHz (gigahertz). Select IBM ThinkPad A Series notebooks also feature up to a 48 GB (gigabyte) high-speed hard drive, Integrated 802.11b and Bluetooth™ wireless, and two modular bays that can house a variety of optional devices including a modular DVD/CD-RW (digital versatile disc/compact disc re-writable) optical drive. One of the bays, the new Ultrabay Plus, offers the additional options of a Numeric Keypad or Cradle for the WorkPad c500 Series. Other features include up to a 15” TFT (thin-film transistor) display that can display up to UXGA (ultra extended graphics adaptor) resolutions (1600 X 1200 pixels). This high-end ThinkPad FlexView display features IPS (in plane switching) technology, which provides greater brightness, superior contrast and an exceptionally wide 170-degree viewing angle.

    The Mobility Radeon graphics processor brings all the features and performance of a desktop PC to the notebook space, including lightning-fast 3D acceleration, superior video editing capability, smooth DVD (digital versatile disc) playback, integrated TV-out, multi-monitor support, and the ability to run the latest high-power video games and the industry’s most graphics-intensive applications. Mobility Radeon incorporates ATI’s exclusive power management technology, which delivers exceptionally low power consumption for longer notebook battery life.

    Mobility Radeon is optimized for Microsoft's Windows XP operating system which brings significant advances in digital media, Internet communications and personal productivity to notebook users.
