    Press Release - 2002

ATI Introduces THEATER™ 200, an Advanced Single Chip
Analog Video Decoder and Stereo Audio Processor

Major worldwide broadcast standards supported by small chip footprint

    Thursday January 3, 2002

MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT), a world leader in the supply of graphics, video and multimedia solutions, today introduced THEATER™ 200, an advanced single chip analog video decoder and stereo audio processor supporting major worldwide broadcast standards.

The introduction of THEATER 200 expands ATI’s product portfolio in the consumer electronics market. THEATER 200 interfaces seamlessly to ATI’s Xilleon™ 220, a highly integrated system-on-chip for the digital set-top box market, and, in many cases, enhances ATI’s ability to supply consumer electronics OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) with their key multimedia components.

The THEATER 200 is designed for use in consumer electronic equipment requiring high quality video and audio capture such as multimedia PC to TV video graphics cards, Set-Top Boxes, Analog Personal Video Recorders, LCD TVs, and other multimedia platforms. “As the market gradually transitions to digital TV, there is still a vital need for these platforms to support analog formats,” said Vlado Zrinscak, Product Manager, Set-Top Box Components, Consumer Products Group, ATI Technologies Inc. “THEATER 200’s high level of integration and small package enables OEMs to address this need in a cost and space effective manner.”

THEATER 200 captures Composite, S-Video, and Component (including High Definition) analog video signals and converts them to ITU-656 compliant digital video resulting in very high quality visual images. In addition, THEATER 200 captures the Sound IF (Intermediate Frequency) or composite audio outputs available from most tuners, performs audio demodulation, stereo decoding, and outputs the decoded audio via I2S (inter-IC sound – a serial bus for digital audio).

THEATER 200 features analog front-end circuitry that includes input source selection, anti-aliasing filters, advanced AGC (Automatic Gain Control) and Clamp circuitry, and dual 12-bit ADCs (Analog to Digital Converters). The video decoder includes features such as Macrovision detection, a high quality vertical and horizontal scaler, as well as an adaptive 2D comb filter. THEATER 200 supports all worldwide video (NTSC, PAL, and SECAM) and audio (BTSC, DUAL FM, EIA-J, and NICAM) broadcast standards.

Chip volume production for THEATER 200 is targeted to begin in Q1 2002.
