NovaPal SetPal Digital Terrestrial Technology Powered by ATI Technologies' NXT6000™
Digital terrestrial technology ships for use in the United Kingdom
Tuesday, January 7, 2003
MARKHAM, Ontario - ATI Technologies
Inc. (TSX:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that ATI's NXT6000™
has been chosen by NovaPal Limited for its SetPal digital terrestrial
receiver module which is currently shipping in the United Kingdom.
SetPal technology facilitates the viewing of existing and future
free-to-view digital terrestrial channels on a standard analog
television set. SetPal technology is currently being shipped
in volume in the UK by Daewoo model DS608P, Labgear model DTT100
and Triax model DVB2000T.
The SetPal technology provides for a DVB (digital video broadcasting)
compliant digital terrestrial receiver that supports COFDM
transmission and QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying), 16-QAM
(quadrature amplitude modulation), and 64-QAM. The device
offers upgradeable-over-air software and services, plus MHEG-5
(Multimedia and Hypermedia information coding Expert Group)
digital text with large cache for efficiency. NXT6000 is the
key component that powers the digital terrestrial reception
technology for the SetPal proposition.
"We chose ATI as a SetPal partner to enable NovaPal
to deliver the best digital terrestrial reception possible,"
said Steve Farmer, Head of Technical Strategy at SetPal. "ATI's
NXT6000 delivers the advanced features and performance that
we require to make our products reliable and easy to use.
ATI has a proven product roadmap that will allow NovaPal to
plan for the future."
The NXT6000 OFDM (orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing)
Demodulator and FEC (forward error correction) IC is a highly
integrated solution for digital terrestrial receiver applications.
This single-chip receiver includes an OFDM Demodulator together
with Viterbi and Reed Solomon Forward Error Correction and
an integrated 10 Bit A/D converter. The NXT6000 not only supports
all modes of the DVB-T standards as defined by ETS 300 744,
but also meets the mandatory requirements of the NorDig Receiver
Specification that defines a set of requirements for high-performance
terrestrial receiver solutions.
"ATI has a goal to deliver the best possible digital
reception for manufacturers to implement in the consumer electronics
marketplace," said Markus Florian, European Business
Development Manager, DTV/Consumer Products Group, ATI Technologies
Inc. "ATI and NovaPal have worked together in great cooperation
to jointly improve the acceptance of digital TV in the UK
and the newspaper reports we've been following indicate the
overall UK DVB-T receivers market is on the rise with almost
40,000 units per week. ATI's NXT6000 is a perfect solution
for the SetPal digital terrestrial receiver and we're pleased
to be able to offer this technology to customers in the UK."
ATI Technologies will exhibit its DTV technologies at International
CES in booth 31145 (south hall) January 9-12, 2003 in Las
Vegas, Nevada.
