    Press Release - 2003

ATI graphics power FINAL FANTASY XI notebook

Microsoft DirectX 8.1 support seen as crucial

    February 28, 2003

Tokyo, Japan – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced that Square Co., Ltd., has named Fujitsu notebooks powered by ATI’s Mobility Radeon 9000 as officially tested notebooks for its online game FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. FINAL FANTASY XI is the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) designed specifically for the Japanese market, and has already acquired more than 200,000 subscribers since its launch in May 2002, making it one of the most popular MMORPGs worldwide.

Fujitsu’s high-end notebooks FMV-BIBLO NH26C and FMV-BIBLO NH24C, with Pentium 4 2.6GHz and Pentium 4 2.4GHz processors respectively, include ATI’s Mobility Radeon 9000 with 32MB DDR memory. Mobility Radeon 9000 is the most advanced mobile graphics solution available – it is currently the only one to support DirectX 8.1 programmable vertex and pixel shaders. It gives mobile gamers access to the sort of performance that was top-end for desktop users as recently as twelve months ago.

“Mobility Radeon 9000 brings top-notch graphics to the notebook user,” said Reuven Soraya Director of Marketing, Mobile Products at ATI Technologies. “Fujitsu has enabled mobile users to play games without compromising visual quality, whether they’re on the road or just using a notebook to save space at home.”

“We’ve waited for notebooks with DirectX 8.1 for a long time,” said Hiromichi Tanaka, Senior Vice President / FINAL FANTASY XI Producer of Square Co. “A notebook is much better suited than a desktop to playing games at home because you can play wherever you want to play. We’ve developed games for consoles that people typically play sitting on the floor in the living room where the family gathers and Mobility Radeon 9000 has finally made this a possibility for PC gamers, too.”
