MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies
Inc. (TSX:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that Changhong
Electric Co. Ltd. has chosen Xilleon™ 220 for its line
of consumer electronics products. Xilleon 220 is an advanced
and highly integrated system-on-chip suitable for a range
of digital devices including set-top boxes and digital televisions
(DTVs). Changhong is the leading TV manufacturer in China.
“Changhong has a philosophy to create great consumer
electronics for the future and with ATI’s DTV technology,
we’re able to make these products a reality,” said
Huidong Jia, Vice General Manager of Changhong Network Division. “We
chose ATI’s Xilleon 220 for its combination of high-speed
processor, digital video support, and eye-catching display
engine with 2D/3D graphics. The Xilleon system-on-a-chip
(SOC) solution also enables the possibility of making modular
design for integrated DTVs.”
Changhong is using ATI’s DTV solutions in two different
configurations: an HDTV (high definition television) design
and a set-top box (STB).
The Changhong TV division has created an ATSC (Advanced
Television Systems Committee) HDTV design using Xilleon 220
to create a variety of features including IR (infrared) remote
control support, high definition (HD) decode support, all
format conversion, AC3/MPEG2 audio decode, analog/digital
PIP (picture in picture) support, stereo audio output support,
plus an EPG (electronic program guide) and graphics user
interface.
Xilleon 220 has also been implemented in Changhong Network’s
ATSC STB with dual HD decode support, and dual output to
digital or analog TVs. The device also supports digital PIP,
graphics user interface, IR remote control, two USB (universal
serial bus) ports, YPbPr/RGB/S-video/composite video output,
plus AC3 and MPEG2 audio output.
“As part of ATI’s goal to expand the company’s
overall business with more consumer electronics opportunities,
the company is enabling consumer electronics manufacturers,
such as Changhong, to create exciting products with Xilleon
220 and bring their solutions to market,” said Yujing
Wei, Greater China manager, marketing and business development,
DTV/Consumer Products Group, ATI Technologies Inc. “Changhong
has made an excellent choice with Xilleon 220 based on competitive
features – small footprint, integrated technology and
superior performance – for future DTV technology.”
ATI Technologies will exhibit its DTV technologies on March
21-23 at China Cable Broadcasting Network 2003 at booth #3606
in Hall 3 of the China International Exhibition Center, Beijing,
China.
