    Press Release - 2002

On June 28, 2002, ATI acquired NxtWave Communications

NxtWave Communications Introduces NXT6000, Industry's Most Advanced, Smallest Form Factor and Lowest Power COFDM Single-Chip Receiver for Digital TV Reception

Company Furthers International Reach of Digital TV With New Product Line

    December 19, 2000

LANGHORNE, Pa., Dec. 19, 2000 - NxtWave Communications Inc. (nxtwavecomm.com), a developer of broadband communications integrated circuits (ICs), today announced the NXT6000, a single-chip COFDM (Code Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing) receiver for the DVB-T standard of television broadcast used in Europe, Australia, and some parts of Asia and South America. Available in a 64-pin package, the NXT6000 offers manufacturers of DTV, digital set-top boxes and PC-DTV cards the industry's smallest single-chip solution for enhanced digital broadcast reception in these markets.

In an effort that furthers the transition from analog to digital broadcast, the NXT6000's demodulator technology delivers DTV broadcast reception in the presence of strong static and dynamic multipath interference. The NXT6000 simultaneously addresses manufacturers' needs for increased performance, small package size and reduced power consumption. "The NXT6000 marks NxtWave's entry point into the growing DVB-T marketplace," said Matt Miller, president and CEO of NxtWave Communications. "As a global chip company and one that is specifically focused on the DTV market, we offer a great array of superior, cost-effective solutions to OEMs. The NXT6000 COFDM chip is designed to capitalize on the strengths of the DVB-T broadcasting standard and deliver to consumers in DVB markets the benefits of digital high or standard definition video broadcast."

NXT6000 supports all modes of the DVB-T standards including the hierarchical COFDM modes as defined by European Telcommunications Standardization Institute (ETSI) and is the first device designed to meet the mandatory NorDig requirements for digital TV platforms in the Nordic region (Denmark, Finland, Island, Norway and Sweden).

The NXT6000's state-of-the-art demodulator design achieves a new level of power savings and offers high performance at substantially less than one800 milliwatts watt. An on-board controller, along with automatic data acquisition and reacquisition and digital timing recovery features, requires minimal software and reduces costs by eliminating the need for external components.

The chip includes an OFDM demodulator together with Viterbi and Reed Solomon Forward Error Correction (FEC) and an integrated 10-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). The NXT6000 supports both high and low IF tuner architectures using either 36 MHz or 4.57 MHz IF and uses a 2.5 Volt core 0.25-micron process which further reduces the need for external components and enables a high-performance, low power consumption solution.

The compact size, reduced power requirements and need for components, along with simplified interfaces (for example, separate RF and IF AGC control) make this chip ideal for applications such as tuner modules that perform RF to bits solutions.

Available in a compact 64-pin low quad flat pack (LQFP) package, the NXT6000 is priced at $15 in quantities of 10,000. Production quantities are scheduled for Q1 2001. Additional product information is available at nxtwavecomm.com.
