ATI's RAGE 128 family perfectly
optimised for Intel Pentium III processor systems
- RAGE
128 chip tuned for OpenGL, Direct3D and real-time MPEG-encoding on
Pentium III platforms
April 7, 1999; ATI announced today that it's RAGE 128 family of 2D,
3D and video acceleration chips and boards have been highly optimised
for the new Intel Pentium III processors. RAGE 128, with dual-pipeline
technology, uses the power of the Pentium III processor, allowing access
to the upcoming processor's high performance capabilities.
ATI's RAGE
128 based chips and accelerator boards, including the RAGE Fury 32MB
TVout, RAGE Fury 32MB, All-In-Wonder 128, Rage Fury 16MB and RAGE FURY
8MB, will see 3D improvements with Pentium III systems, in addition
to enabling new features such as real-time MPEG-2 video compression.
"ATI has
worked with Intel to ensure RAGE 128 products are optimised to take
full advantage of the power and features of the Pentium III processor,"
said Simon Greer, ATI UK Country Manager. "Our RAGE 128 products on
a Pentium III processor-based platform provide significant improvements
in 3D performance and multimedia functionality."
"ATI worked
diligently to ensure the benefits of the Pentium III processor are immediately
available to users everywhere," said David L. Fair, Intel Corporation's
Visual Computing marketing manager. "ATI's RAGE 128, with its 3D and
MPEG-2 encoding capabilities showcases the Pentium III processor platform."
RAGE 128
support of Pentium III processor with streaming SIMD extensions takes
the 3D visual experience to the next level.
Performance 2D and the visual quality of 3D images and multimedia applications
will improve through the Pentium III processor's Streaming SIMD (Single
Instruction Multiple Data) extensions and floating point architecture,
which RAGE 128 supports in its 3D drivers, Direct3D and OpenGL.
"Unreal gamers
will find the RAGE 128 and Pentium III combination very tough to beat.
All the visual speed and quality you need to drive Unreal to the max
is resident in the RAGE 128-Pentium III combination," said Mark Rein,
Vice President of Epic Games. The Pentium III processor's new media
instructions provide a boost for ATI's video capabilities.
The Pentium
III processor's new media instructions will also enhance ATI's video
capabilities.
The RAGE 128 accelerator chip, in conjunction with the RAGE Theater
video encode/decode I/O chip, will capture and compress videos in high
quality MPEG-2 format in real-time, eliminating the need for expensive
encoder boards. This technology will be incorporated into future ATI
products.
RAGE 128
chips and boards the ideal match for the Pentium III processor.
All of ATI's RAGE 128 family of chips and boards are ideally balanced
for the Pentium III processor, including the performance-leading RAGE
128 GL and the mother-board oriented RAGE 128 VR. ATI board products
optimised for the Pentium III include the Rage Fury 32MB TVout, Rage
Fury 32MB, Rage Fury 16MB, All-In-Wonder 128, as well as the 8MB RAGE
FURY 8MB.
