CrossFire™ Xpress 3200 - Reviews

CrossFire Xpress 3200 has been getting amazing reviews from all over the world:

Americas

ExtremeTech ExtremeTech
For now, 40 PCI-Express lanes, a cooler RD580 northbridge, and enhanced CrossFire support for lower-end GPUs put this board near the top of our list.”

Anadtech Anandtech
“ATI has a solution that competes in every way with the best nVidia has to offer in AMD chipsets. The (CrossFire Xpress 3200) RD580 was designed from the ground up for dual x16 and it is the first chipset to provide dual x16 PCIe on a single chip. This solution is much simpler than the nVidia solution which uses one chip designed for AMD for an x16 PCIe slot and another designed for Intel for the second x16 PCIe slot.”

HardOCP HardOCP
“The ATI CrossFire Xpress 3200 is a highly overclockable performance powerhouse. It would seem ATI has improved on the Xpress 200 in nearly every way.”

“ATI may just have the best overclocking chipset we have ever seen”

“ The [CrossFire Xpress 3200 chipset] was built from the ground up with overclocking in mind, they built quite a lot of headroom for those looking to push their systems past the limits”

“… the ATI (CrossFire Xpress 3200) chipset … made a splash on the PC Perspective test beds bringing new life to the CrossFire platform with a great performing chipset and a new overclocking edge over even the best motherboards on the market”

“ ATI is on the right track with the CrossFire Xpress 3200 chipset”

“ [The CrossFire Xpress 3200] chipset as a whole offers a very complete feature set”

“ The chipset has plenty of ‘headroom’ left, as is evident by our excellent overclocking results”

“ The new ATI (CrossFire) Xpress 3200 chipset has a lot to offer the enthusiast motherboard market. Featuring the first true Dual-16X technology and geared for the CrossFire VGA card setup the Asus A8R32-MVP may be the next generation board we have been looking for”

FiringSquad FiringSquad.com
“During our (CrossFire Xpress 3200) RD580 briefing, we were explicitly told that the chipset was overbuilt specifically for overclocking. With this in mind we were eager to see how high we could push our A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard, and we’re happy to say that ASUS didn’t disappoint. We were able to hit HyperTransport speeds of up to 334MHz without any problems”

“So, is the new CrossFire Xpress 3200 platform from ATI a worthy reply to Nvidia’s nForce4 SLI X16? After we’ve done our tests, we can answer this question in the affirmative. Nvidia’s long-time rival, the Canadian ATI Technologies Company, has developed a chipset which is not only comparable to the nForce4 SLI X16 in capabilities but is also far superior in the concept.”

" With (CrossFire Xpress 3200) RD580, ATI has without a doubt a hot product that will excite high-end users most importantly because of its overclocking abilities."

" A X1600 can profit from the dual X16 in (CrossFire Xpress 3200) RD580 with up to 19 per cent more performance."

Muropaketi Muropaketti, Finland
"Performance boost in 3D applications really surprised me, and for an overclocker like me, ATI's (CrossFire Xpress 3200) RD580 reference design and its overclocking potential is like a dream come true."

"...the new Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe has the the cool stuff the A8N32-SLI Deluxe has. It only 'misses' the heatpipes, which is a good thing in the end, since the ATI chip (CrossFire Xpress 3200) doesn't need them. For an enthusiast, the board is definitely an excellent alternative to the nForce 4 boards, especially thanks to the great overclocking possibilities and the low power usage..."

"Even more impressive was the fact that we could leave the HTT multiplier forced to 5.0x, giving a HTT bus speed of 1380MHz - this is far beyond anything we've ever seen before. The fact that the board was as stable as we found it at its default clock speeds was verging on hard to believe. We were able to replicate these results with an Athlon 64 FX-60, too. To say that we were impressed by the overclocking capabilities of this motherboard and chipset combination is something of an understatement… …it's the best early-sample mainboard we've seen for a long time - it was a pleasure just to unpack it and fire it up.”

”Good job, ATI!“

” Very clear, ATI offers at the moment the better x16-technology as there is no bottleneck as with Nvidia between the two x16-chips in form of the HAT-Links. Also, the new production process with 0,11 µm is more modern, needs less space and less power.”

CrossFire Xpress 3200 is unbeatable in terms of PCI Express lane utilization and data transmission, this will put competition far behind. The high speed transmission rate not just benefits high-end dual graphics, but also benefits mid-low dual graphics like X1600 and X1300.

CrossFire Xpress 3200 doesn’t need to lower HTT frequency to achieve over-clocking results, that said end user can overclock CPU at 1600 HTT frequency, this will drastically optimize overall performance.

ATi officialy announce the availability of boards based on its new ATi RD580 chipset. As you are probably aware, the RD580 was ATi's CrossFire answer to the Dual 16x PCIe platform. Although it is probably good enough for most users, bandwidth requirement for the high end graphics card seems to be the trend. RD580 is clear to challenge the NF4 SLIx16 as both are aiming for higher PCIe lanes. In this case, RD580 supports Dual 16X PCIe for CrossFire with a single chipset using Xpress Route.
