Q3: What are the ship dates to retailers and OEMs for the All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ products?

A3: The All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ AGP version started shipping to North American retailers and OEMs at the end of August 2000. The version supporting countries outside North America began shipping in October 2000. The PCI version will begin shipping within North America at the end of February 2001.

Q4: What are the motion video capture file formats supported by the All-in-Wonder® family of cards?

A4:
  • Files can be captured to AVI video format using "raw" YUV video codecs
  • Real-time MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video capture is supported on all All-in-Wonder® 128, All-in-Wonder® 128 PRO and All-in-Wonder® Radeon™

Q5: What factors affect live video capture performance and what are the system requirements needed to achieve the highest live video capture rates and compression?

A5: The video capture performance depends on the capabilities of several components within the computer including CPU, sound card, chipset, memory and hard drive. Video capture performance results may vary from one system to another. To achieve full 30 frames/second video capture with audio, the following are typical minimum system requirements:

Capture Format Frame Size Minimum CPU
MPEG-1 352x240, I frame only Pentium® 200 MMX
MPEG-1 352x240, IBP frames Pentium® II-300
MPEG-2 720x480, I frame only Pentium® II-450
MPEG-2 720x480, IBP frames Pentium® III-700

Q6: In what formats can All-in-Wonder® family of cards capture still images?

A6: The All-in-Wonder® family of cards can save still captures in many sizes, up to 640x480 and in many standard image formats, including BMP, JPEG and TIFF.

Q7: Support for previous ATI video codecs VCR1 and VCR2 was also dropped from the All-in-Wonder® Radeon™, making users upgrading from previous ATI VIVO and All-in-Wonder® cards unable to read their previously saved files. Will ATI support those codecs, at least for conversion to other formats, or provide some other solution to this issue?

A7: The are no current plans to update these proprietary codecs or to include them with ATI® Multimedia Center 7.x (or later) on All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ or All-in-Wonder® 128 or All-in-Wonder®128 Pro. However for the playback of existing VCR1/VCR2 content, there are unsupported versions of the codecs, which can be used on All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ or other systems, available at the following link:

http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/ATIVCRX.html

ATI® Multimedia Center version 6.x onwards supports MPEG capture, which is the recommended method for forward compatibility and interchange with other systems.

Q8: Does the All-in-Wonder® family support Windows® NT 4.0 & 3.51? What features are supported and which are not?

A8: No. Windows® 2000 support is provided for All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ cards.

Q9: Will the All-in-Wonder® family support Linux?

A9: While ATI does not develop Linux or XFree86 drivers for its graphics cards in house, we actively support 3rd party developers that provide driver support for the majority of ATI products.

Q10: Can All-in-Wonder® cards be upgraded to use more memory than what is originally shipped?

A10: No.

Q11: Will there be a version of the All-in-Wonder® boards for Latin America?

A11: The NTSC version of All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ also supports PAL M and PAL N for use in Brazil and Argentina.

Q12: What are the differences between North American and European All-in-Wonder® cards?

A12:
  • The North American boards have "closed captioning" while the European boards have "teletext".
  • The software bundles that accompany the retail product may be different in different countries.
  • The 16MB versions of All-in-Wonder® 128 in Europe are mono-audio. Later All-in-Wonder® boards in Europe are stereo-audio.
  • The Interactive Program Guide is a North American feature only at this time.
  • The European version of All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ is available in AGP only. The PCI version is currently under development.

Q13: Which one of the All-in-Wonder® cards has digital audio (S/PDIF) output?

A13: Only All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ has digital audio (S/PDIF) output.

Q14: Will the All-in-Wonder® support all versions of Windows® 95?

A14: No. Originally, All-in-Wonder® 128 and 128 PRO supported Windows® 95b (Win 95 OSR 2) and later versions. More recent software will not support Windows® 95, however, Windows® 2000 support has been added.

Q15: What types of digital audio output do the All-in-Wonder® family of products support?

A15: S/PDIF output on the All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ supports Dolby® Digital output, however it does not support DTS output. Previous generations of the All-in-Wonder® family of products, i.e. All-in-Wonder® 128 and All-in-Wonder® 128 PRO, do not support digital audio output.

Q16: Is it recommended to install an All-in-Wonder® PCI version on a P4 system?

A16: No. Due to limitations of P4 systems with any PCI graphics card it is not recommended that All-in-Wonder® PCI versions be installed in a P4 system.

Q17: Does the All-in-Wonder® family of products support video conferencing?

A17: Yes, the All-in-Wonder® family supports any applications that use DirectShow® and the Windows® driver Model (WDM) architecture. One example of a WDM-based video conferencing application is CuSeeMe™ Pro for Windows® which can be found at:

http://www.cuseeme.com

Q18: Does the All-in-Wonder® family of products support NetMeeting™?

A18: No. Microsoft® NetMeeting™ (version 3.1 and earlier) is not supported in the latest ATI drivers because it is based on the older technology of the Video for Windows (VfW) architecture.

Q19: Does ATI support DirectShow® or VfW for video capture?

A19: ATI supports the most recent PC video industry standards that are moving toward DirectShow® and most of the popular video software programs have moved, or are moving away from Video for Windows. ATI provides comprehensive information (via the Developer Relations section of the ATI web site) to help developers move to WDM/DirectShow®, in addition to the Microsoft SDK:

http://www.ati.com/developer/aiwviddev.html

Please contact the vendor of your software if you find it does not support WDM.
