Q1: What is Windows 2000™?
A1: Windows 2000 is the latest Operating System from Microsoft. It is positioned as a business or corporate Operating System and is basically an upgrade to Windows NT 4.0. The different Windows versions and respective target audiences are listed below:

Windows Server Family

Windows Professional

Windows Server

Windows Advanced Server
Windows Datacenter
Target Audience Business desktops and notebooks file, print, intranet and networking E-commerce Larger critical applications, OLTP, data warehouses, ASPs and ISPs
The Windows 2000 launch occurred on February 17, 2000. Please refer to Microsoft's website for detailed information: http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/default.asp

Q2: Which Windows Operating System is right for me, Windows 9x or 2000?
A2: For home computer users running Windows 98 or Windows 95, Microsoft strongly recommends waiting for the next consumer operating system from Microsoft, code named "Millennium." You may choose to delay your upgrade to Windows 2000 if product features and capabilities that are currently only available under Windows 98 are critical to you.

Use the guidelines below to determine which Windows is right for you:
Use Windows 2000 Professional if you need...
Use Windows 98 Second Edition if you need...
The highest reliability to keep your business running. The best support for working with music and video.
Enhanced security to protect your business data The best support for PC gaming.
The best support for mobile business computing. Easy home networking and Internet setup.
The best platform for next-generation business technology. The broadest support for consumer hardware and software.
Please go to http://www.microsoft.com/canada/mywindows/ for more information on the differences between Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

Q5: Is DVD supported under Windows® 2000?
A5: Yes, ATI® Multimedia Center 7.1 (which includes ATI® DVD PLAYER) supports Windows® 2000 for Rage 128, Rage 128 Pro and Radeon boards. The ATI DVD 4.0 PLAYER supports Windows® 2000 for RAGE XL™, RAGE PRO™ and RAGE LT PRO™ boards, but as a software only solution. So, for optimal DVD playback performance, this solution should be used with a fast Pentium II and Pentium III or equivalent CPU.

Please note that earlier versions of ATI Video Player, ATI Multimedia Center™, or ATI DVD Player will NOT work under Windows® 2000.

Q6: Is ATI's Modular control panel included on the Windows® 2000 release CD?
A6: ATI's modular control panels are not included on the release CD of Windows® 2000. This is restriction that Microsoft has placed on all graphics vendors. ATI control panels, enabling such features as Direct3D and OpenGL performance customization, monitor control, brightness and color controls, and advanced options will be available in separate driver releases.

Q7: Is multi-adapter support provided?
A7: Drivers that support the RAGE LT PRO™ and RAGE XL™ will be made available in a separate driver release.

Products based on the MACH 32/64™, RAGE II™, or RAGE PRO™ do not support multi-adapter and will not function properly when used as the secondary adapter. They will function properly when used as the primary adapter. This is a design limitation with Windows® 2000 which cannot be rectified with a driver update.

Windows® 2000 does not properly support video capture on the secondary adapter. All-in-Wonder® products should be used as the primary adapter to ensure that all multimedia features function correctly

Q8: Does TV Output work with Windows® 2000?
A8: Basic TV output for products with the ImpacTV2™ chip which include Xpert@PLAY98™, Xpert LCD™, All-in-Wonder PRO™, will work with the drivers supplied on the Windows® 2000 release CD.

Drivers that support TV output for products based on Radeon™ graphics technology are available on the CD that ships with the product.

Q9: Will the game bundles I received with my purchase work when I upgrade to Windows 2000?
A9: The software bundles that accompanied the product you purchased were selected based on the operating systems that were shipping at time. Therefore, with the exception of Expendable™, the games bundled with your product will not run under Windows® 2000.

Q10: Is there DVI-support on the Windows 2000 release CD?
A10: Radeon™ (All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ and Radeon™ 64MB DDR with DVI) products include drivers on the ATI Installation CD that fully support the DVI feature.

The basic ATI drivers supplied on the Windows® 2000 release CD do not support the DVI feature

Q11: Is video capture on Radeon™ 64MB DDR (VIVO*), All-in-Wonder Radeon™, RAGE FURY PRO™, All-in-Wonder 128™, All-in-Wonder PRO™, TV WONDER VE™ and ATI-TV WONDER™ products supported in Windows® 2000?
A11: Yes. This functionality is available in ATI Multimedia Center™. The capture formats that are available in Windows® 2000 will not include all the formats available in Windows® 98. It is recommended that previously captured video files be converted to an industry standard format codec before upgrading to Windows® 2000 to ensure that they can be used under Windows® 2000.

Q12: Will ATI enhanced Windows 2000 drivers be available for legacy products?
A12: Windows 2000 drivers will not be made available for legacy or discontinued products. This includes 3D PRO Turbo PC2TV, 3D XPRESSION+ PC2TV, 3D XPRESSION+ -, original All-in-Wonder, ATI-TV, Video Basic, Video-It! and ATI Modems.

ATI does have a trade up program for specific legacy products. Please check driver availability for the product you are interested in before upgrading.

Q13: Where can I get Windows® 2000 drivers for the ATI graphics chip in my laptop/notebook?
A13: Products based on ATI’s Mobility™ product line, including RAGE Mobility P™, RAGE Mobility M™ and RAGE LT PRO™, are supported by a generic graphics driver included on the Windows® 2000 release CD. The basic driver on the Windows® 2000 CD may not offer some of the custom features provided by the manufacturer of your laptop. Some examples are OpenGL or custom control panels. In some cases, the generic driver may not function properly to provide basic graphics support and a specific driver, released by the laptop manufacturer, may be required for any support under this operating system.

Please contact the manufacturer of your laptop/notebook computer to determine whether Windows® 2000 is supported on your system and to determine which drivers to use.

Due to the number of driver customizations required to support each specific laptop/notebook computer design, ATI is unable to provide laptop/notebook drivers direct to end-users. Please check with your laptop/notebook manufacturer for assistance.

Q14: Why can't I set desktop resolutions higher than 800x600?
A14: In some cases when Windows 2000 starts for the first time with a product that has TV-out, Windows incorrectly detects the presence of a TV. Please go to the display properties and change your monitor type from television to your monitor. Once the monitor type is set correctly, you will be able to set modes higher than 800x600. If you do have a TV connected, you will not be able to set the mode higher than 800x600.

Q15: Will the Rage Fury MAXX be supported under Windows 2000?
A15: Windows® 2000 support will not be available for the Rage Fury Maxx™. The Windows 2000® operating system is the next generation of Windows NT. Since the Rage Fury Maxx™ was not originally designed to support Windows NT, Windows® 2000 driver support will not be available. The drivers that ship with the Rage Fury Maxx can be installed under Windows® 98, 98SE and Millenium.

Q16: Where are the RAGE PRO™, RAGE LT PRO™ and RAGE XL™ drivers?
A16: Driver support and ATI Multimedia Center™ for the RAGE PRO™, RAGE LT PRO™ and RAGE XL™ product lines are available for download from the Special Purpose Driver Site.
