Q1: What is a Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card and what chipset does it use?
A1: Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card (Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics processor chip, 64 or 128MB DDR with VGA, DVI-I support and video-output) is a complete graphic solution containing advanced 3D, multiple display, and video technologies for a wide range of consumer and commercial need. For more information on ATI's Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card, please check our Specifications section in the Radeon™ 9000 web showcase.

Q2: What are the advanced 3D features supported with the Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphic card?
A2:
Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphic card supports the following advancements in 3D technologies:
  • Full DirectX 8.1 and OpenGL 1.3 support
  • SmartShader™ (Pixel Shader 1.4, Vertex Shader 1.1)
    • Realistic and complex lighting for all surfaces
    • The most realistic and richly-textured 3D environments
  • SmoothVision™
    • Advanced full scene anti-aliasing technology
    • High performance Anisotropic Filtering for the sharpest looking texture quality without significant performance impact.
  • HyperZ™ II
    • Conserves memory bandwidth for optimal performance (boosts effective memory bandwidth by over 25%)
Q3: What do these features called "Full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA)" and "Anisotropic filtering" do?
A3:
  • Full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA) is a sampling technique that creates more detailed and realistic looking images, by removing the stair stepping effect seen on the edges of objects within computer generated images. High quality anti-aliased graphics are achieved with sub-pixel edge detection and color compression for greatly improved performance. 2x/4x/6x full scene anti-aliasing modes
  • Anisotropic filtering enhances the user's experience by rendering sharp, detailed textures. As more texture samples are filtered, the image quality improves. The Radeon™ 9000 PRO chipset filters more samples than the competition, with minimal performance degradation. 2x/4x/8x/16x anisotropic filtering modes.
Q4: Is there a PCI version of Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card?
A4: ATI currently offers only AGP-based Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card. PCI cards featuring the Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics technology may or may not be available from ATI Graphics Partners.

Q5: Can my new motherboard work with Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card?
A5: : Radeon™ 9000 PRO AGP graphics card complies with AGP 2.0 specifications and should therefore work with most motherboards that also comply to these specs. Many modern motherboards require AGP drivers to be installed in order for AGP to be supported. These drivers are generally shipped with the motherboard. Contact your motherboard supplier for updates.

Q6: What are the benefits of attaching two different displays to the Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card at the same time?
A6: Attaching two displays to the Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card offers you the ability to extend your desktop. The extended desktop mode is available with the Windows® XP, Windows® 2000, and Windows® Me operating systems. This way you can increase your productivity by having different applications on different displays or even span an application (e.g. spreadsheet) across both displays. As a result, you receive twice the display area, plus you increase your efficiency and flexibility. Hydravision™ Multiple Monitor Management Software makes using multiple displays easy and further increases your productivity by adding features such as hot keys, multiple desktops and a Desktop Management pop-up menu. For more information on Hydravision™, please see our interactive demonstration.

Q7: Can I use a PCI graphics card or my integrated video, in the same system as my dual display Radeon™ 9000 PRO, to support three or more displays?
A7: ATI does not support the use of an additional PCI graphic card in a system with the Radeon™ 9000 PRO graphics card to run three or more displays. These products do support the use of two independent displays, from a single card, under the Windows® XP, Windows® 2000, and Windows® ME operating systems.

Q8: When will the Radeon™ 9000 PRO boards be shipping? What is the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) of this product?
A8: The Radeon™ 9000 PRO boards (both the 64MB and 128MB versions) are currently shipping. The SRP for the 64MB version is $129 (U.S.) and the 128MB version is $149 (U.S.).
